Inside Passage
The sheltered coastal route through the islands of Southeast Alaska and British Columbia.

The Inside Passage is a network of protected channels between the islands of Southeast Alaska and northern British Columbia. Most Alaska cruises spend much of their time here, calling at towns such as Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway and Sitka, most of which have no road connection to the rest of North America. Because the islands shelter the route from the open Pacific, the water is generally calm, which makes it a good first cruise for anyone worried about seasickness. Glacier fjords such as Tracy Arm branch off the main route.
Example
Our seven nights from Seattle were spent almost entirely in the Inside Passage.

Floreo tip
If anyone worries about seasickness, the Inside Passage is the gentlest way to see Alaska. One-way cruises add a stretch of open Gulf of Alaska, which can be rougher.
