Arrive and get your bearings
Into LaGuardia, Kennedy or Newark, then a transfer in. The first afternoon stays deliberately loose: Fifth Avenue, Bryant Park, Rockefeller Center, and Times Square once it is properly dark. Dinner somewhere worth the reservation, then an early night.

The park, the view, the show
Breakfast, then Central Park at a walking pace. Bethesda Terrace, Bow Bridge, the Mall, and out the other side for lunch. Top of the Rock late in the day, when the park is on one side and the Empire State Building on the other. Dinner, then the theater.

Downtown, at your own speed
The day that stops this feeling like a tour. Chelsea Market, then the High Line, then down into the West Village and SoHo. The afternoon is left open on purpose: a museum, a food tour, the Brooklyn Bridge, or a long lunch and some shopping.

A late breakfast and whatever you did not get to. Grand Central, the bridge, a bagel worth the line. Then the airport.
