Celebrity Ascent

Celebrity Ascent is the fourth ship in Celebrity's Edge Series, with a modern design, the Rooftop Garden, and a suite area called The Retreat. It suits adults who want a polished, relaxed week.

Celebrity Ascent

Floreo notes

Who this ship suits

Celebrity Ascent suits couples, friends and grown-up families who want contemporary design, good food and a calmer feel than the biggest family ships. Celebrity describes it as the fourth ship in its Edge Series and lists 32 restaurants, bars and lounges, including Le Voyage by Chef Daniel Boulud.

Who might look elsewhere

If your group is built around young children and waterslides, Royal Caribbean, Carnival or Disney will give you more of that. If you want an adults-only ship, Virgin Voyages is the closer fit.

On board

The line highlights the multi-deck Sunset Bar, the Rooftop Garden with pools that extend over the side of the ship, and the Grand Plaza with its Martini Bar. Days at sea here are about lounging, eating well and evening entertainment rather than thrill rides.

Cabins and planning

Celebrity says Ascent offers the widest range of staterooms and suites in its fleet. AquaClass staterooms are described by the line as spa-inspired. The Retreat is for suite guests and includes a private restaurant, lounge and sundeck. Ask us to compare what each category includes on your sailing before you choose.

Celebrity's veranda page describes the Edge Stateroom with Infinite Veranda: at the touch of a button the window wall opens and the whole room becomes the veranda. That is different from a conventional balcony, where a door leads to a separate outside deck with its own chairs. Celebrity lists 243 square feet of total living space, including a 42 square foot veranda area, and says Edge Series staterooms are 23% larger than its Solstice Series verandas. Couples who like to sit outside while the other sleeps may prefer a conventional veranda or a suite.

What is included and what is extra

Celebrity's All Included fare is optional. Its FAQ says it adds Basic Wi-Fi and the Classic Drink Package, including the drinks package's gratuities, for everyone in the stateroom; daily onboard staff gratuities are charged separately. Suite guests in The Retreat get Premium Wi-Fi and the Premium Drink Package on that fare.

Planning checklist

  • Decide whether a suite and The Retreat are worth it for your group.
  • Check current Celebrity inclusions and what is extra on your fare.
  • Confirm the current itinerary and port for your dates.

Celebrity lists a double-occupancy figure of 3,260 guests on the ship's official page.

From an advisor

If you are torn between a veranda and a suite, ask us to price both with the current inclusions. The difference in what is included can matter more than the room itself.
