Bahamas
The Bahamas is the shortest step from Florida into island cruising: three to five night trips to Nassau and line-run private islands, with longer Caribbean weeks often stopping there too.

Why the Bahamas
The Bahamas sits close to South and Central Florida, which is why it dominates short cruises. A three or four night trip can reach Nassau and a private island with little time at sea. For first-time cruisers, families with young children and anyone short on time, it is a low-risk way to find out whether cruising suits you.
Private islands and beach clubs
Several lines run their own island or beach destinations here. Disney's itinerary flyer lists Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point. Royal Caribbean says its weekend cruises from Miami on Wonder of the Seas include Perfect Day at CocoCay. Virgin Voyages' short Miami sailings include The Beach Club at Bimini. These days are built around beaches, pools and simple food; check what is included and what, such as cabanas, costs extra.
Nassau
Nassau is the main city port. It suits travellers who want a town day, a beach outside town or a quiet day on a near-empty ship.
Choosing a trip
- Three nights: quick, usually two port days, no sea day.
- Four or five nights: adds a sea day or a third stop, and is easier with children.
- Seven nights: usually continues into the Caribbean; the Bahamas becomes one or two days within a wider route.
Weather and timing
NOAA's Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30 (confirmed from official NOAA pages in search results on 9 October 2026; a direct fetch was blocked). Short Bahamas trips run through much of the year; during the season, itineraries can change at short notice, and travel insurance deserves a close look. We do not give month-by-month forecasts.
Who might choose something else
If you want several islands with distinct cultures, look at Eastern or Southern Caribbean weeks. If you want quiet, a short Bahamas cruise is often the liveliest part of a line's schedule.
